The Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)is an EU directive which comes into effect on 1st July 2006. It restricts the use of the following substances in electronic and electrical products sold in the EU:

RoHS
  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Cadmium
  • Hexavalent chromium
  • PBB
  • PBDE

The RoHS Directive imposes a burden on producers of electronic and electrical products to remove currently commonly used materials from their products - the major material being lead (Pb) which is a 40% constituent of solder.

The restriction of the use of these substances is being imposed in order to protect human health and the environment. It is one of several directives that have been introduced in recent years in an effort to stop the harmful effects of many products on the environment.

In order to comply with the EU RoHS legislation all of these substances must either be removed, or must be reduced to within maximum permitted concentrations, in any products containing electrical or electronic components that will be sold within the European Union.

Aladdin (acquired by SafeNet Inc.) is committed to carrying out the RoHS EU directive and supplying RoHS units in the European Union or wherever required.

All Software DRM and eToken products are RoHS compliant.
